Do you ever find it hard to focus during your prayer time?
You start out thanking the Lord for the many good things He’s done. Then, before you know it, your mind starts planning that email you need to send? (Sound familiar? :-) Is it even possible to focus during prayer?
The answer is yes! Here are some things that I have found help me to concentrate during prayer time:
- Timing: Have my quiet time (with prayer) early and first thing in the morning – my mind is fresh!
- Lighting: If I’m praying in my home office, turn off the main lights so that my eyes don’t see all the things to do and leave on smaller lights to see by (if you’re reading make sure the light is adequate!).
- Singing: Begin my prayer time with singing. After doing this for awhile, my brain may have calmed down (this works great for prayer in the middle of the day).
- Reading: Use a prayer list and/or prayer cards to keep my mind purposefully engaged. (Stay tuned for one of my favorite prayer card ideas!)
What helps you to concentrate during your prayer time?
“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD;
in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee,
and will look up.”
